Quite honestly, I believe that Tuft University's decision to ban sex in front of a roommate is a rather absurd and radical maneuver. I am inordinately curious as to how they plan to execute or enforce this "ban". Besides, if a student does not mind being present in the room while his/her roommate proceeds in engaging in sexual intercourse then that is their own right and decision. Whether or not the act of exhibiting sexuality in front of a "roomy" is offensive primarily depends on the person who is watching or is present at the time. In addition, an individual has an undeniable choice to express themselves, therefore sex should be no exception. As long as people are not having sex in a public place or out in the open, then there should be no issue. However, if the roommate is not so pleased being in the room while sexual activity is taking place, they should not be banished from their room. Although, a simple and more reasonable solution, instead of a meaningless ban, would be to establish or request a legitimate contract between roommates prior to their arranged and official residency in the dorm together. The contract could grant each roommate the option of allowing sexual activity in their dorm while the other is present or not allowing sexual activity while they are present.
