What I thought

First, I would like to state that I believe the fact that middle schoolers took on this challenge really reflects how leaders develop at a young age. Viewing their plan of action and signatures sparked inspiration to take my project even more seriously. It was obvious that those young students were devoted to this cause to improve the quality of their school and community. Overall, it is a wonderful aspect that we have the freedom to make change, and it is inspirational to witness people taking advantage.

My Perfect Political Candidate

My perfect political candidate would be the epitome of democracy; thus she would be for the people's well-being. Why? Everyone deserves a mic to voice their views, opinions, and concerns, and I would want my person to embody and depict the conscious anatomy of the common man in America. My candidate would most likely be liberal, since she is for the people. In reference to the war in Iraq, she would view this as matter that needs the be thoroughly revised for the sake of the country's budget and the lives of innocent soldiers. In order to ward off terrorism, she would believe that it is essential to withhold the support of other nations in order to guarantee a promising outcome. As a strong believer of individual rights, my candidate would reason that the woman has the right to choose in terms of abortion. Also, she would stand on the conviction that there should be no official ban on same-sex marriage; however,in other aspects, she would be somewhat ambivalent on the subject. Health care, in her opinion, would be a necessity. Therefore, she would allow health care to be more tangible to those who deserve it, earn it, and face hardships such as retirement, old age, low income, and so forth. Nobody should be subject to gratuitous empathy and hand-outs. Of course, taxes should benefit the common people but not at the expense of those who work hard for their fruits. My candidate would want to formulate a strenuous tax plan that is in the favor of most, if not all. She would strongly believe that education should be granted to all and that the quality of education be taken into critical account. No child or adult should be left behind or left obscure from a promising and beneficial education.

DO NOT DISTURB!

Quite honestly, I believe that Tuft University's decision to ban sex in front of a roommate is a rather absurd and radical maneuver. I am inordinately curious as to how they plan to execute or enforce this "ban". Besides, if a student does not mind being present in the room while his/her roommate proceeds in engaging in sexual intercourse then that is their own right and decision. Whether or not the act of exhibiting sexuality in front of a "roomy" is offensive primarily depends on the person who is watching or is present at the time. In addition, an individual has an undeniable choice to express themselves, therefore sex should be no exception. As long as people are not having sex in a public place or out in the open, then there should be no issue. However, if the roommate is not so pleased being in the room while sexual activity is taking place, they should not be banished from their room. Although, a simple and more reasonable solution, instead of a meaningless ban, would be to establish or request a legitimate contract between roommates prior to their arranged and official residency in the dorm together. The contract could grant each roommate the option of allowing sexual activity in their dorm while the other is present or not allowing sexual activity while they are present.
What do you think the administrators of Tuft University were thinking? My conviction simply lies as such: It seems as if they were not thinking at all.

Death penalty? A punishment? How?

Should you rape a rapist? I surely think that that would teach a rapist a lesson.
Should you steal from a thief? I believe so.
Should you set an arsonist on fire? As long as they do not die; they should suffer.
However, I most definitely DO NOT agree the death "penalty" should serve as punishment for murderers. A punishment in its denotative meaning is defined as suffering, pain, or loss that serves as retribution or severe, rough, or disastrous treatment. How does a person suffer if they are deceased? Simply put..........they don't. My conviction strongly lies that any person that has inflicted pain on families and friends by murdering someone else should suffer in confinement. In other words, the death "penalty" is not a "penalty" at all. Millions and billions of Americans' hard earned dollars are frivolously being used or spent on a method of punishment that serves no significant purpose or purpose at all, for that matter. These killers, murders, and criminals are getting off easy. They are not enduring any type of anguish for their wrongdoings. In fact, the country and all those who bear the wrath of these evil persons are emotionally and financially wounded by death "penalty". Thus, does execution serve or constitute as cruel and unusual punishment? Of course not. It is not castigation, discipline, confinement, or anything pertaining to punishment. In modest terms, the death "penalty" is inconsequential and illogical.

There is some truth in what Former President Carter stated in reference to the media. The media does somewhat contain subtle racism within ambiguous comments. As far as Kanye's outburst, he has the right to state his opinion just as the media has their authority to state how they feel about the situation. The media is sort of displaying a slanderous story. However, looking at Kanye's previous outbursts, the media has alot against him. Overall, everyone has a right to their individual opinion.

In reference to Obama's recent speech to the American youth about the overall significance and value of our education, I feel as though it was very much needed and mildly poignant. President Obama thoroughly and eloquently stated that when the individual task of acquiring a rewarding education is undone it does not just affect that individual. It affects the nation as a whole. Personally, the speech sparked inspiration to work and study more tenaciously and efficiently. It also compelled me to motivate myself to reach long term goals ,and it produced a sense of meaningful purpose. Hopefully, this speech has made it evident to other teens that an education is one of the most powerful objects in the world to attain and possess. Likewise, we are in control of not only our own destiny but the destiny of our children, our children's children, and so on.
